This collection consists of the research materials, correspondence, and writings Yeomans generated in establishing the Bill Henry Room at the Occidental College Library, and the publication of works on Bill Henry, the history of the Olympics, the history of tennis in Los Angeles, and the history of the First Baptist Church of Los Angeles. Materials include scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, photographs, correspondence, and publications and memorabilia relating to the Olympic Games.
Background
Patricia Henry Yeomans is an American athlete and writer in Los Angeles, California. Yeomans studied history and played tennis at Occidental College, and was the first woman at the school to receive an "Oxy O" letter. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1938. Yeomans remains an active amateur historian, and has produced several historical works, including Behind the Headlines with Bill Henry(Ward Ritchie Press, 1972), History and Heritage of the Los Angeles Tennis Club: 1920-1980 (Los Angeles Tennis Club, 1979), Our History, Our Heritage, Our Homes, Our Hope (First Baptist Church of Los Angeles, 1999), and several self-published works on tennis. Daughter of Bill Henry (class of 1914), Yeomans was instrumental in the establishment of the Bill Henry Room at the Occidental College Library.
