Background

Scope and content:

This collection contains the papers of California surfer, filmmaker, photographer and inventor of wind skating Jamie Budge, including manuscript material documenting his life and professional career, with a particular focus on two of his surf films, The Living Curl (1965) and The Californians (1967). Other materials include photographs (snapshots, contact sheets, black-and-white prints), scrapbook pages, news clippings, news releases, ephemera, as well as flyers, posters and programs for screenings of The Living Curl, The Californians, Four Years After and Chain Reaction. Also included is the only motion picture film copy of The Living Curl, along with the archival master of recent 4K scans of the film.
