    Scope and Contents

This collection is comprised of sources, notes, correspondence, related newspapers, and an original manuscript of Stanley T. Wilson's history of Stanislaus State College, "How Turlock won a college." Wilson was a newspaper editor and publisher who purchased the Turlock Daily Journal in 1953. In 1957, when California Governor Goodwin J. Knight signed legislation for a state college in Stanislaus County, some citizens of Turlock formed a special committee to win the election. Wilson was appointed to head this committee. In 1959, Turlock was chosen as the location of the new State College.
