Biography
Ed Jurist was born in ca. 1916 and was a theater major at the University of Michigan. He established a career as a prolific
television producer and writer. In 1949, he produced, directed and wrote
The Aldrich Family, one of the first situation comedies in television. In 1953, he produced and wrote
Colonel Flack. Working at Warner Brothers je continued to produce and write television series, including
Hawaiian Eye,
77 Sunset Strip and
Room for One More. Later, at Screen Gems, he was one of the principal writers of
Bewitched from 1964 to 1968, and he produced
The Flying Nun from 1968 to 1970. He was a story consultant and writer on
One Day at a Time (1980),
Maude (1974),
Diff'rent Strokes (1982-1985), and
Gimme a Break (1986). Ed Jurist died March 12, 1993 in Los Angeles, CA.
Scope and Content
The collection consists of material related to radio and television writer and producer, Ed Jurist. The bulk of the collection
includes script files for radio and television productions, casting files of resumes and photographs, and a small amount of
personal papers and printed materials. Among the productions represented in the collection are the radio series
Alrich family and
The Jonathan Winters show, and the television series
Bewitched (1969-71),
Colonel Humphrey Flack (1953-59),
Leave it to Beaver (1957-59), and
The Patty Duke show (1964-66), among others.
