The collection consists of letters, documents and maps related to land ownership and transfers in Orange County, California, from 1887 to 1915, some created by the Orange County Title Company of Santa Ana.

Biographical / historical:

Orange County, California, was created in 1889 from part of Los Angeles County, and was named for the orange groves which were a predominant agricultural feature of the area. The earliest settlement in the county was at Mission San Juan Capistrano in 1776. The predecessors of the Orange County Title Company, consolidated in 1894, transcribed the complete record of all Los Angeles County documents pertaining to Orange County land titles at the time of the county's creation.
