Abstract: The Committee for the Conservation of Cultural Resources for Southern California (CCCRSC) was one of the state branches of
the national Committee for the Conservation of Cultural Resources, a part of the National Resources Planning Board during
World War II. Main goals were to strategize the protection of area cultural materials from enemy attack both in their current
repository and possibly also in storage at some safer place. Materials in this collection include correspondence, bulletins
no. 1-16, articles, and administrative records for the Committee for the Conservation of Cultural Resources for Southern California
Collections from December 1941 to about June 1942.

The Committee for the Conservation of Cultural Resources for Southern California (CCCRSC) was one of the state branches of
the National Committee for the Conservation of Cultural Resources, a part of the National Resources Planning Board during
World War II. CCCRSC first met on December 26, 1941 answering a call by Southwest Museum director Frederick Webb Hodge. Edgar
L. McRae of the Works Progress Administration was elected chairman, and Southwest Museum curator Mark Raymond Harrington was
named secretary-treasurer. Main goals of the CCCRSC were to protect area cultural materials, or at least discuss and coordinate
their protection, from enemy attack both in their current repository and possibly also in storage at some safer place. As
attack did not materialize, interest and the necessity for such precautions waned.
