    Biography

    Kent Hitchcock was a marine and commercial photographer based in Newport Beach, California.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    The collection consists of photographic negatives and some black and white prints taken in the Newport Beach, California. As a commercial photographer, Hitcock captured a wide variety of images including ships, fishing, commercial buildings, sailboats and motor cruisers, sailing races, local events, houses, and businesses during the 1940s and 1950s.
    Some subject os particular note include images of Hubbard's South Coast Boatworks, which produced vessels for the United States government during the Second World War, Newport Beach's Tournament of Lights boat parade and various saling and motorboat races, including the Flight of the Snowbird and Pacific Coast Inboard Championships
    There are many photos related to the Balboa Angling Club, most of which are of anglers with their catches. These typically include a chalk board with information about the angler and the fish caught
    Most items are undated and the original captions are limited in scope.
