Correspondence, announcements, newsletters, newspaper and magazine clippings, directories, pamphlets, permission slips, course papers, report cards, photographs, college calendars, blank postcards, airline tickets, itineraries, maps, airline boarding passes, foreign bills, stickers and pins to and from and gathered by Deborah Deutsch Smith with she was a student at Pitzer College from 1964-1968. Correspondence contains information about her daily life as a student at Pitzer written to her parents, as well as information regarding her year abroad studying in Rome through the Rome Center of Liberal Arts, Loyola University, and traveling in Greece, Turkey, Israel, Egypt and Sweden. Additional correspondence included in the collection written to Deutsch and her family from Pitzer administrators as well as persons directing the Rome Center of Liberal Arts. All materials are related to Deborah Deutsch Smithβs time spent and activities engaged in at Pitzer College.

Deborah Deutsch Smith was born Deborah Deutsch in Santa Monica, California on August 10, 1947 to Milton and Marion Daniels Deutsch. She had one brother, Dan, who was 7 1/2 years younger than her. Deborah was a member of the first four-year graduating class at Pitzer College where she majored in Psychology. Deborah was Pitzer's first study abroad student. She spent the 1965-1966 academic year studying in Rome through a parterning institution: Rome Center of Liberal Arts, Loyola University. She graduated from Pitzer in 1968.
