    Abstract: Junipero Serra (1713-1784) was a priest of the Franciscan order in the Catholic Church, who helped Spain conquer and colonize what is now the state of California. This is a collection of magazine and newspaper clippings, manuscripts, programs, and posters regarding Junipero Serra, dating from 1904-1963. Materials are in English and Spanish.

    Biographical Note

    Junipero Serra (1713-1784) was a priest of the Franciscan order in the Catholic Church, who helped Spain conquer and colonize what is now the state of California.

    Scope and Contents

    This is a collection of magazine and newspaper clippings, manuscripts, programs, and posters regarding Junipero Serra. Materials date from 1904-1963 and include folders on biographical articles and publications, canonization, commemoration, and statues erected in Serra's honor. Included is a booklet from 1936 documenting correspondence between Captain Don Pedro Fages and Junipero Serra in 1772. This collection also includes a speech about Serra given by Charles Fletcher Lummis in 1913, and an unpublished manuscript from 1943 entitled "Serra Postscript" by M. R. Harrington.
