The collection largely contains Douglas's business correspondence from 1928-1962, his correspondence about manuscripts, research materials covering science and nature topics, and the first drafts of some of Douglas's books. In addition, the collection includes Church of Christ pamphlets, personal papers about Douglas's life, and artifacts.
- Biographical / historical:

John Scott Douglas led a successful career as an author. He was born in 1905 in Seattle, Washington and graduated from the University of Washington and Harvard Business School. Books he published include The Story of the Oceans, The Secret of the Undersea Bell, Northward the Whalers Go, Caves of Mystery, Summits of Adventure, and He's in the Merchant Marine Now. In 1967, he was awarded the California Writers Guild Honor Award. Beyond writing, he was an adventurous man and enjoyed scuba diving. In memory of John Scott Douglas, his wife established a fund in the Pepperdine Creative Writing Department (the John Scott Douglas Award scholarship) which is awarded to Seaver upperclassmen hoping to pursue the writing profession.

- This collection was donated to Pepperdine by Ione Douglas, Mr. Douglas's wife, in 1981 with the hope that the materials would aid future researchers and students in understanding the problems which authors must face in the publishing world.
