    Scope and Contents

    This collection consists of a scrapbook of signatures and event ephemera from the estate of the president of the Cosmopolitan Dinner Club, Agnes B. Hardy. Notes, illustrations, and signatures are present in the scrapbook along with various dinner invitations and place cards for events Hardy attended. Notable signatures include those of physicist Albert Einstein, author Blanche Upright, actor Harry Lang, and political figures Herbert Hoover, Calvin Coolidge, Earl Warren, and James Rolph. Also represented are various illustrations by artists Charles Schatzlein, Friedrich Feigl, and George McManus. Collection includes the 1967 legal document from Hardy's estate noting the custody of the scrapbook being transferred to USC.
    Originally part of the Ethel Barrymore Memorial Theatre Arts Collection at the University of Southern California Library 100 Series, and was labeled 100-23.

    Biographical / Historical

    Agnes Boss Hardy (1884-1967) was an American socialite known for being the president of the Cosmopolitan Dinner Club in the 1920s and 1930s in Los Angeles and for being the wife of Superior Court Justice Carlos S. Hardy. She also was columnist for the Evening Herald in the early 1920s and wrote several children's novels.
