Vessel History: The first American-Hawaiian vessel named WASHINGTONIAN was ordered to be built in 1914 by the Maryland Steel Co. in Sparrows Pt., Maryland, for American-Hawaiian. She was an Isherwood type vessel and was delivered on January 16, 1914. The vessel was taken over by the U.S. Navy in 1914 and put into the transport and supply service. On January 26, 1915, under the command of Captain Edward D. Brodhead, the vessel was run into and sunk by the ELIZABETH PALMER (schooner, 5m) near Fenwick Island Shoals. It was the first vessel lost by American-Hawaiian.
