Description
Two bound volumes of the publication, Art Beacon. One volume dated 1947 through 1960 (first two issues titled Palette Painter prior to name change to Art Beacon). Second volume dated November-December, 1963 through March, 1972).
Background
The institute was formed by downtown business men who wanted to paint as a pass time. The institute was incorporated in the 1940s and continues to this date. In its hey day it consisted of over a hundred business men of Los Angeles. As the downtown area changed in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s fewer men were willing to stay in down town and the membership diminished and currently consist of about 10 members. The institute is now located at 2228 Florencita, Montrose, California. Quoted from source: Donald D. Desmond, President of BMAI, April, 2018
