Background
- Scope and content:
-
The Golden Baseball League was founded in 2004 by Stanford University graduates David Kaval and Amit Patel and started playing in 2005. It was not affiliated with Major League Baseball or the organized Minor League Baseball system. In its inaugural season the league was composed of eight teams, one of which was the San Diego Surf Dawgs. The Surf Dawgs discontinued operations after the 2006 season. The league lasted through the 2010 season. After the 2010 season, it merged with the United Baseball League and the Northern League into the North American Baseball League. The collection only includes material produced during the period that the Surf Dawgs were involved. Part of the collection was donated in January, 2008, by Jay Walker, with the remainder delivered in May, 2007.
