Collection contains approximately 150 black and white and color print photographs, 120 contact sheets and negative rolls and 400 color slides of San Francisco cable cars, streetcars, streetscapes and architecture taken by Darius Aidala between 1976 and 1994 in San Francisco, California. Significant events documented include the Golden Gate Bridge 50th anniversary, 1989 Loma Prieta Earthquake and the demolition of the Embarcadero Freeway in 1991. The photographs document 1980s Downtown building demolitions during the building boom and the transformation of the China Basin and Mission Bay waterfronts. The transportation documentation focuses on the PCC streetcars at Geneva Barn before its demolition in the 1980s and the historic Cable Car Barn prior to its reconstruction in 1982.

Darius V. Aidala was born in Rome, Italy in 1961. He grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area, California. He began photographing at the age of 15. Aidala is a published and exhibited documentary and street photographer. Aidala now resides in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.
