This collection primarily contains materials related to the work of the Sierra Club, including administrative records and correspondence. The collection also includes environmental research materials mostly related to California water and forestry issues.

Biographical / historical:

Phillip S. Berry (b. 1937 - d. 2013) was a lawyer and an environmentalist. He graduated from Stanford University and Stanford Law. He formed a law firm with his father in Oakland called Berry & Berry. He served as the National President of the Sierra Club from 1969-1971 and again from 1991-1992. In 1971, he co-founded the Sierra Club Legal Defense Fund, which is now known as Earthjustice.
