Jacks
(1947-1986) founded the Urania Science Fiction Club, an organization devoted to the discussion of lesbian, gay, and alternate
sexuality in science fiction and fantasy, in 1980. It was the first gay and lesbian group of its kind.
Jacks
led Urania Club meetings, organized events, and composed A Gay and Lesbian Science Fiction and Fantasy Recommended Reading
List, which he distributed to club members. He also participated in a science fiction convention, Norascon Two (1980). The
bulk of the collection pertains to these activities and date, primarily, from 1980 to 1981. There are also club flyers, correspondence,
