YWCA of the Mid-Peninsula records, circa 1948-2013

Series VI. Programs

Scope and content:

This series, the largest in the collection, contains materials related to the YWCA's core programs: child care, multicultural and racial justice programs, programs for women and teens, programs for seniors, rape crisis intervention and prevention, recreational classes, and the Vietnamese refugee program. Multicultural and racial justice programs, the largest subset, include affirmative action programs, imperative events, and civil rights forums; local school programs such as multicultural puppets, docents, and storytellers; dialogues and study circles; the Black women and women of color awards; Familia Hispana Unida; and groups such as El Club and the Black women's support group. Senior programming includes the half-century club, queen for a day, the senior service club, and the Gadabouts travel group. The Vietnamese refugee program offered English as a second language classes, adult education, childcare, and job training. Formats include brochures, clippings, manuals, minutes, newsletters, photos, and scrapbooks. See also Series III, Financial Records, for program materials related to fund development.
