    Biographical / Historical

    Frances Blaisdell (b.1912 – 2009) was an American flautist and the first female wind player admitted to the Julliard School. As a performer she held positions with the National Orchestral Association, the New Opera Company, the New Friends of Music, and was the first female wind player to appear as soloist in concert with the New York Philharmonic. In addition to her performing carreer, she was a prolific teacher that held positions at the Manhattan School of Music, New York University, Dalcroze School, Mannes School of Music, and Stanford University.

    This collection is arranged into three Series: Music Scores, Sound Recordings and Scrapbooks.

    The Frances Blaisdell Collection was acquired by the Stanford Archive of Recorded Sound from Alexandra Hawley in 2016.

    Scope and Contents

    This collection contains material amassed by American flautist Frances Blaisdell dating from 1843-2005. Included are music scores, sound recordings, scrapbooks and personal books pertaining the life and musical career of Blaisdell.
