Background
The Alumnae of the Sacred Heart of San Diego is the San Diego chapter of the Associated Alumnae/i of the Sacred Heart (AASH). The AASH is an organization comprised of all alumni of schools conducted by the Religious of the Sacred Heart. The AASH aim is to “foster a spirit of unity and ongoing communication among alumnae/i.” The National chapter of the AASH was organized in 1930 by Sarah Chambers Polk, and alumna of Maryville College. The inaugural meeting was held in Saint Louis in 1933. As of 2016, the AASH is comprised of more than 40,000 women and men educated in Sacred Heart Schools. The San Diego chapter began as a way to connect alumni of the San Diego College for Women. It later expanded to include all alumni of Religious of the Sacred Heart schools living in San Diego.
