View includes the Atlas Iron Works, the Nevada House on the southwest corner of Napa (20th) & Michigan and the Monterey House at 909 Illinois. Same image as A11.00134 n. Image reproduced in John Kemble's book, "San Francisco Bay: A Pictorial Maritime History," p. 65, with the following information: "Industrial San Francisco in the 1870's....The foundries and iron works turned out steamboat engines and railway locomotives as well as mining machinery. Iron and steel shipbuilding in San Francisco developed from them. Beyond the dwellings in the foreground is a row of saloons and boarding houses typical of the waterfront district of the city." Note on print enclosure: "Look up Scotch Hill and Irish Hill." See also scr50:135 with date 1892.
