Scope and content:

Includes individual and group portraits of Mexican revolutionaries posing with rifles, bandoliers, sombreros, etc., some standing, others on horseback. Notable subjects include the Afro-Mexican soldadera Carmen Amelia Robles 脕vila and General Federico Morales. In some images the photographer's portable backdrop is visible.

Biographical / historical:

Castrej贸n (1888-1962) was reputedly the first woman to photograph the Mexican Revolution. Born in Teloloapan, Guerrero; studied photography in Mexico City, possibly at the Escuela de Artes y Oficios de Mujeres; established a studio in Teloloapan at the beginning of the Mexican Revolution.
