Sound recording of interview with Joan-Marie Shelley conducted by Adah Bakalinsky. Describes her involvement with school unions, 1955-1970, and her rise to become president of the United Educators of San Francisco in 1984; discusses her views on bilingual education, violence in schools, the California Teachers Association, and the American Federation of Teachers,, as well as the influence of her father, former San Francisco mayor John Francis Shelley; synoptic index available.
