    Biography/Administrative History

According to "Builders of our Nation" (1914) Richard Felix Robertson was born in Mazatlan, Mexico, in 1863, the son of Richard Lew and Canuta (Hedeza) Robertson. He graduated from San Francisco's Kent College of Law in 1898. Robertson went on to be very active in Los Gatos as well as San Jose municipal activities. He married Cassie Shannon in 1887, and they resided at 249 Main Street, Los Gatos. For more information, see Eugene T. Sawyers' "History of Santa Clara County, California."

    Scope and Content of Collection

The ledgers contain copies of business letters from the office of attorney Richard F. Robertson, whose office was located in the First National Bank Building, San Jose, as of 1913. Based on the letters, Robertson appears to have dealt primarily in real estate transactions and debt collection during this time. An index at the front lists addressees by last name; an additional index at the back of the third ledger lists "Alta Vista Letters."
