    Biography/Administrative History

Efrain John Gonzalez is a bisexual photographer, tour guide, and artist. He gives tours of the historic locations of popular kink and fetish clubs in Manhattan through a company named the Hellfire Tours, predominantly in the “Meat-Packing District”, below the old subway rail known as the “High Line”. Gonzalez formerly took photographs of people and places in the Meat-Packing District when it was a thriving community, and published his work on the Hellfire Tours’ website to advertise. It is apparent Gonzalez was also very involved in the bisexual activist community, as he documented the happenings at the San Francisco Bisexual Conference throughout the 90s. Seemingly, he was also very involved in the queer community at large; his photography also captures prominent figures of San Francisco Pride parades, and queer joy between friends and partners.

    Scope and Content of Collection

This collection consists of photographs from queer cultural centers, fliers for the Hellfire Tours, an artist’s notebook, and a flash drive including photographs of various San Francisco Bisexual Conferences. The array of physical photographs in the collection are black and white, showing scenes from San Francisco Pride parades in the 90s. The fliers advertise the Hellfire Tours, list Gonzalez’s contact information, and include regulars of the kink and fetish clubs in the Meat-Packing District. This collection also includes a notebook, which is blank, aside from the colorful cover that is duplicated. Finally, the flash drive is a digital documentation of roughly one hundred photographs of scenes at the San Francisco Bisexual Conferences, San Francisco pride parades, along with digital copies of diary entries.
