This series is made up of materials from both William Henry Workman (1839-1918) and Maria Elizabeth (Boyle) Workman (1847-1933), primarily consisting of real estate documents concerning various locations around Los Angeles, California. Other materials include correspondence, financial records, news clippings, certificates, and photographs. This series also includes materials from Maria Elizabeth (Boyle) Workman's father, Andrew Aloysius Boyle (1818-1871), located in Box 30. Most of which is financial records, incoming and outgoing correspondence, news clippings and some original works by Andrew Aloysius Boyle. The holdings in this series range in date from 1826 to 1946, with majority of materials from the 1870s to the early 1900s. Correspondence remained as it was arranged when it came to Loyola Marymount. The correspondence is both incoming and outgoing, concerning private as well as civic and community matters. Large portrait photographs of William and Maria Workman can be found in Box 77, 80, and 81.
Noteworthy materials include original records on the estate of William and Maria Workman, William Henry Workman's certificates from the city of Los Angeles, and an original record of Los Angeles city officials, which includes the signature of William Henry Workman during his tenure as LA city treasurer from 1901 to 1907. Additionally, there is a very extensive scrapbook of news clippings from 1888 to 1896 in Box 29 that offers insight into the social, cultural, and political happenings of Los Angeles in the late 1800s. Similarly, there are articles on William Henry Workman and Maria Elizabeth (Boyle) Workman throughout the series, most notably full-size newspapers in Box 87.
