Scope and Contents

This series contains files which summarize Metz's professional activities, high school and college education, and family history. Materials include artist's statements and résumés, inventories of artwork, a bibliography of published works, a list of UCSC courses taught, notes and coursework from her college education at Bowling Green State University, transcripts of academic coursework and degrees, and family photograph albums dating from 1909 to 1996.

Scope and Contents

This series contains artwork created by Metz, artwork created by other artists, and artwork created by UCSC students under Metz's mentorship. This series contains over 300 individual pieces of art, spanning approximately 40 years from the early 1960s to the early 2000s.

Scope and Contents

This subseries contains artwork created by Metz. Styles and media range from early abstract prints to later abstract and realist landscapes in ink, graphite, colored pencil, and watercolor. Featured landscapes include Italy, England, the Scottish Isles, and the California coastal wetlands. This subseries also includes reproductions of Metz's works, including slide inventories, gallery photographs, and commercial prints. Inventories for most works available in box 2, folder 1.

This component of digital files was processed by Special Collections staff Alix Norton in 2019. Digital files were transferred from carrier disks, files were not reformatted, and file names are original to the creator. Original disk was retained and is included in the collection.

Scope and Contents

This series contains 89 bound journals and unbound notes which document Metz's daily life, travels, courses attended, and lectures taught. Materials span 50 years, ranging from Metz's 1958 undergraduate class notebooks to an unfinished leather-bound scrapbook she was compiling in 2018.

Scope and Contents

This series includes correspondence between Metz and family members, friends, other artists, UCSC colleagues, and former students. Correspondence includes holiday greeting cards designed and created by fellow artists such as Betty Bates, Marie Calloway, Holly Downing, Alan Gussow, Jasper Rose, and Mary Warshaw. There are also letters between Metz and Santa Cruz conservation organizations such as the Watsonville Wetlands Watch and the Santa Cruz County Land Trust.

This series contains records of exhibitions in which Metz's work was shown and exhibitions that Metz organized for other artists at UCSC.
