Mr. Curtis appears to have been a lawyer and according to the paperwork in the file he was called before the 12th District Court of Northern California in what appears to have been a case in which he was accused of slander and defamation of a man named David C. Mitchell. Mr. Mitchell and his attorney were seeking $20,000 in damages regarding his "false" imprisonment and defamation. The defense attorney was one W.C. Burnett.
