The collection primarily consists of correspondence received by George M. Fredrickson over
the course of his career as a professor of United States History at Stanford University.
Background
George M. Fredrickson was an Edgar E. Robinson Professor Emeritus of United States History
at Stanford University. He started teaching at Stanford in 1984 after working at Harvard and
Northwestern. He was also a political activist whose work redefined the study of race
relations in United States history. He passed away in 2008.
