    The Garth Baxter Collection of Music was given to Pepperdine University by Garth Baxter and his wife, Katherine, upon their visit to Pepperdine in October 2018.

    Biographical

    Garth Baxter was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1946. An accomplished modern traditionalist composer, Baxter earned his music degrees from Pepperdine University and California State University, Northridge. His works include an opera and music composed for choral, orchestral, and symphonic bands, as well as pieces written for piano, organ, voice, flute, and guitar.
    Baxter's music has been performed throughout the world and has aired on radio and streamed online. He has won awards, commissions, and honors for his pieces, and his music has been discussed in a doctoral dissertation. Presently, in addition to writing music, Baxter also teaches and mentors arising composers.

    Arrangement

    Materials in the collection are arranged into series of published and unpublished compositions.They are alphabetically within each series. The collection is arranged into two series: Series 1: Published Musical Compositions 2: Unpublished Musical Compositions.

    This collection conists of materials produced by composer Garth Baxter, along with some written reviews of his pieces. Materials include published and unpublished pieces and is comprised of sheet music and compact discs. The collection's contents span from 1986-2018.
