    Acquisition Information

    The souvenir photographs were acquired from various sources, including donations and purchases. 2010-54, 2011-18, 2011-97, 2018-40, 2015-82, 2016-51, 2018-31.

    The collection was collected and assembled by the San Francisco History Center, San Francisco Public Library. The collection includes multiple accessions and donations received over the life of the San Francisco History Center.

    Scope and Content of Collection

    Artificial collection consists of over 50 black and white professional souvenir photographs in folded paper mounts taken in nightclubs, hotels and restaurants in San Francisco, California between 1942 and 1955. Establishments include Club Shanghai, Chinese Skyroom, Bimbo's 365 Club, Forbidden City, Kubla Khan, St. Francis Hotel, Showboat, Music Box, Sinaloa, Frolic Room, Backstage, Club Flamingo, Bal Tabarin, Copacabana, Fairmont Hotel, Finocchio's, Joe Dimaggio's Yacht Club, Mural Room (Hotel St. Francis), Persian Room (Hotel Sir Francis Drake), Rose Room (Palace Hotel). Photographers listed on back of mounts include Hollywood Nite Club Photos, Coronet Pacific Coast Pictures, Wallace-Zorn Photos, Betty Jean Photos, Marcus Concessions, Young-Edwards Photograph, Victor Achziger, Candid Photo Studios, San Francisco Photography Company. Some photographs are dated. Photos include both couples and group shots. Some photographs have people identified with handwritten descriptions and autographs.
