Biographical / Historical
David B. Tyack was the Vida Jacks Professor of Education and Professor of History, Emeritus at the Stanford Graduate School
of Education. He earned his undergraduate degree in 1952 and his PhD in 1958, both from Harvard University. He taught at Reed
College from 1959 to 1966, the University of Illinois from 1967 to 1969, and from 1969 to 2016 Stanford University. His primary
research focus was the history of American education. David B. Tyack died in 2016.
