Abstract: This collection contains video
recordings, publications, vertical files, and other materials pertaining to the South Colton
Oral History Project that documents life in South Colton, a 1.3 square-mile ethnically
segregated Mexican American community within the city limits of Colton, California. Includes
oral history interviews with life-long residents and prominent members of the South Colton
community as well as related research materials on the history of Colton, California and
surrounding areas.

Collection Scope and Content Summary
This collection contains video recordings, publications, vertical files, and other
materials pertaining to the South Colton Oral History Project that documents life in South
Colton, a 1.3 square-mile ethnically segregated Mexican American community within the city
limits of Colton, California. These materials were compiled by Tom M. Rivera, one of the
lead project researchers and professor emeritus from California State University, San
Bernardino. Includes oral history interviews with life-long residents and prominent members
of the South Colton community, publications detailing the history of Colton, California and
the Inland Empire region, vertical files documenting the South Colton community, and video
recordings related to Mexican American history.
