The Eleanor Roosevelt College Office of the Dean historical files include documents regarding the naming of Fifth College to Eleanor Roosevelt in 1995, ceremony and event materials, photographs, handbooks, and newsletters.

Arranged in two series: 1) SUBJECT FILES and 2) PUBLICATIONS.

Biographical / historical:

Founded in 1988 as UCSD's fifth college, Eleanor Roosevelt College (ERC) was named in 1995 for the former First Lady, delegate to the United Nations and a member of the first Peace Corps Advisory Council. The renaming dedication of the college included a first annual international symposium and the keynote address given by the former First Lady Hillary Clinton. In March 1987, James Lyon was appointed as Founding Provost of Fifth College. The curriculum of the College is shaped by students' involvement in extra-curricular program within the college and campus, the major requirements, and studying or working abroad.
