Biography
Jay Wilkinson (b. 1957) was born in Abilene, Texas, where his father was stationed at Dyess Air Force Base. He earned his
BA in Mass Communication from Florida State University and his MFA in Cinema Production from the University of Southern California.
At USC, Wilkinson was the sound designer on “Proof” (1980), Kevin Reynold’s thesis film, which served as the basis for “Fandango”
(1985), Reynold’s first feature-length motion picture and one of Wilkinson’s earliest sound credits. He subsequently worked
with Reynolds on five more films. Since 1984, Wilkinson has worked steadily, often as a supervising sound editor or sound
effects editor. He regularly completes several films a year and his frequent collaborators include Reynolds, John Moore, and
Walter Hill. Wilkinson also has several television credits and has been nominated for an Emmy three times for his work on
“Miami Vice” (1984), “Dune” (2000), and “Children of Dune” (2003).
