    Scope and Content of Collection

The American Association of University Women Glendale (CA) Branch Collection contains newsletters, yearbooks, and scrapbooks created by the women of the organization to document their activities and membership. Awards and proclamations note the achievements of the branch and specific branch members. The Collection provides insight into graduate women’s community networks and civic engagement in the Glendale area. The newsletter was initially referred to as the Bulletin, but began its run as Verdugo Views with the September 1986 issue. The newsletters are not always continuous runs in each year. Club activities are also documented in the yearbooks, which also include the names of members and the colleges and universities where they graduated. The publicity book compiled by members of the Press Committee, Mrs. Alan A. Shively, Mrs. Louis B. Kossack, and Mrs. John Edwards, contains newspaper clippings, photographs, and bulletins documenting the branch’s activities. This includes budget planning, participation in the Southern Regional Conference of AAUW, workshop attendance, speakers, and the California state AAUW Division 1951 annual convention in Coronado. The scrapbook assembled by Press Chairman Mrs. Loren A. Yoast and Historian Mrs. Ronald F. Lewis contains newspaper clippings, bulletins, yearbooks, and photographs documenting branch leadership and events, including AAUW Juniors activities. Nancy Ellyson’s President binder includes an annual report, information on Glendale being awarded as a five star branch, the 1995 American Association of Women Conference, notes from branch planning meetings, budgets, board meeting notes, AAUW California regional news, Los Angeles District leader correspondence, and Los Angeles County Interbranch Council agendas and correspondence. The branch also documented its history through a Branch Archive Project that includes anniversary programs, correspondence, a photograph, and decade summaries that chart of the history of the Glendale branch. Materials are arranged alphabetically by type, and then chronologically.
