Robert Domenjoz (1908-2000) was director of pharmacological research at the Swiss pharmaceutical company, J.R. Geigy SA, where he is credited with rescuing the first tricyclic antidepressant drug, imipramine (Tofranil), from being abandoned in development in 1955. He later served as chair of the Pharmacology Institute at the University of Bonn. Domenjoz co-founded Medicina Experimentalis in 1959; the journal was re-formed in 1968 and renamed Pharmacology: International Journal of Experimental and Clinical Pharmacology.
