Scope and content:

Collection consists of a 1987 reproduction of a German poster for the first performance of "Pierrot Lunaire" by Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg on October 16, 1912, in Berlin, Germany, and additional textual materials. Titled: Uraufführung Arnold Schönberg ˶Pierrot Lunaire..." With text at center bottom: "Reproduced for the tenth anniversary celebration of the Arnold Schoenberg Institute, March 1987." The textual materials include concert programs, periodicals, and clippings associated with Schoenberg and the Institute.

Biographical / historical:

The Arnold Schoenberg Institute at the University of Southern California housed the library and archives of Austrian composer Arnold Schoenberg (1874-1951) from 1973 until 1997. The collection was transferred to the newly created Arnold Schönberg Center in Vienna, Austria, in 1998.
