Abstract: The collection consists of original artwork by Dick Martin for the cover of
The Magic of Oz,
the 13th book of the Oz series written by L. Frank Baum and illustrated by John R. Neill. Originally published in 1919, it
was one of several Oz books Martin helped publisher Reilly & Lee redesign beginning in 1960.

Biographical Note
Dickinson P. Martin was born June 29, 1927 in Chicago, Illinois. A commercial artist educated at the School of the Art Institute
of Chicago and the Chicago Academy of Fine Arts, he was hired by Reilly & Lee in 1960 to illustrate and later write books
for the Oz series. A lifelong Oz fan and an important collector of Oz books and ephemera, he also contributed greatly to other
Oz-related works outside of the series.
