Biographical Information
William Matthew Ketchum (September 2, 1921- June 22, 1978) served California as a U.S. Congressman for the 18th District from
1975-1978 and for the 23rd District from 1973-1975. He was a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. He served in the
California Assembly from 1967-1972. Born in Los Angeles, he attended schools in Los Angeles County, the Colorado School of
Mines from 1939-1940 and the University of Southern California from 1940-1942. He served in the Army from 1942 to 1946 in
the Pacific and during the Korean conflict from 1950-1953. He was a farmer and business owner and headed the San Luis Obispo
Chapter of the California Farm Bureau in 1965-1966. He died of a heart attack in Bakersfield.
