Biography/Administrative History
The Coast Line Railway was incorporated April 15, 1905. This was the name under which the Southern Pacific Company constructed
11.90 miles from Santa Cruz to Davenport, California, between September, 1905, and July 8, 1907. It was deeded to the Southern
Pacific Railroad on August 24, 1917. The Coast Line owned no rolling stock of its own, and the line is now known as the Davenport
Branch of the Coast Division. [Guy Dunscomb, A CENTURY OF SOUTHERN PACIFIC STEAM LOCOMOTIVES, 1862-1962 (Modesto, California:
1967), p. 377]
