Records and other material from the now-defunct American Musical Theatre, originally formed in 1935 as the San Jose Civic
Light Opera Association. The AMT filed for bankruptcy in December 2008.
The American Musical Theatre of San Jose was founded in 1935 as the San Jose Civic Light Opera Association, and was a mainstay
of San Jose's theater world for decades. After struggling for several years with mounting deficits, AMT was left with heavy
losses from which they could not recover after a co-production of "Tarzan" with Atlanta and Dallas companies collapsed in
2008. On December 23, 2008, AMT filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.
