The materials consist of reprints that range between 1950 and 2017, correspondence, and photographic slides.

Biographical / historical:

Robert "Buzz" Baldwin was born in September 30, 1927 in Madison, Wisconsin. He recieved his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin in 1950. He continued his studies in biochemistry at the University of Oxford as a Rhodes Scholar, where he received his D.Phil degree (British Equivalent of a PhD) in 1954. In 1955, he became an assistant professor of biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin and later an associate professor in 1958.

In 1959 Baldwin became part of a six-member group of researchers at Stanford's newly formed biochemistry department (headed by the late Arthur Kornberg) in the Stanford University School of Medicine. He became a full professor at Stanford in 1964. He went on to serve as the Chair of the department from 1989-1994. He became professor emritus of biochemistry in 1998.

There are different subsets of correspondence that Baldwin kept: alphabetical, by subject, and by either chronological or chronological/alphabetical - original order was maintained.
