Scope and Content of Collection
The Bulaero magazine was an official publication of companies associated with aviation schools in the Glendale area. It was
generally published monthly, with some issues having combined numbers to create one bimonthly issue. This collection consists
of runs of volumes 1 and 2, with some issue numbering discrepancies in volume 2 resulting in two number 4 issues. The publication
began with a specific publication date each month, but shifted to a general monthly date convention with the November 1943
issue. The magazine appears to have paused publication in the months between January 1945 and May 1945, picking up publication
again after victory in Europe was declared in May. The cover of the first issue is missing.
Magazine content was directed with an eye toward an audience of aviation students and employees of Curtiss-Wright Technical
Institute, Cal-Aero Flight Academy, Mira Loma Flight Academy, Polaris Flight Academy, Aircraft Industries Corporation of Glendale,
Aero Commissary Company, and Grand Central Airport. The articles often have a playful, irreverent tone that documents World
War II era humor and celebrations. Holidays are acknowledged and celebrated with items such as a Christmas dinner menu in
a December issue. The magazine retains a generally positive tone throughout its run, and is an example of a World War II morale
boosting publication.
