Scope and content:

Amerasians: Media and the Arts Video Collection,1983-1990 , is composed of 119 ¾” U-matic tapes. The collection includes interviews and highlights of Asian American play writers, actors, filmmakers, musicians, performance artists, animators, journalists, broadcast journalists, activists, visual artists, painters, poets, photographers, art historians, and other artists. Some interviews focus on Hawaiian-American filmmakers and Asian American female artists. Some segments cover events such as the Pacific Islander Festival and Asian Pacific American Heritage Month.

Biographical / historical:

Amerasians: Media and the Arts was a public access television series featuring interviews of Asian American artists, filmmakers, and writers. The series was produced and directed by Stann Nakazono; John Esaki hosted. Much of the production was volunteer-run. Episodes of the show were aired on the South Bay Cable Public Access Channel.

Arrangement:

The holdings are organized in three series: I. Interviews, 1987-1990; II. Artists’ Works, 1983-1989; III. Events, 1989-1990. All of the materials are in English. Descriptions and synopses of video are available in repository.

Series I. makes up for the bulk of the collection and consists of video interviews varying in length and detail. Series II. contains some examples of the artists’ works such as films, plays, and music videos. Series III. includes footage of community events.
