Biographical / Historical
Standard Felt Company in Alhambra, California grew out of the Alfred Dodge Manufacturing
Company, which began in 1903 with the financial backing of Henry E. Huntington, William G.
Kerckhoff, and associates. The company was built in Alhambra on land purchased in 1903 that
had previously held the San Gabriel Wine Company. The manufacturing of felt began in 1904,
and in 1910, the company changed its name to Standard Felt Company. (See also two-page
history of company with collection.)
