The Society of California Pioneers established in 18590 in San Francisco, and was dedicated to the study and enjoyment of
the art, history, and culture of California.

This small collection consists of documents produced by the Society of California Pioneers in support of election activities.
Included are election announcements listing slates of candidates; letters to the membership regarding nominations and elections,
and amendments to the organization's constitution; two copies of proposed constitutional amendments; two copies of annual
reports (1888 and 1889); and a pamphlet outlining the results of an investigation into the rejection of certain candidates
for membership. Also included is an enclosing letter for a ticket to the parade and reception of January 24, 1898; and an
invitation to a reception honoring James Lick and the Senior Pioneers (October 16, 1915).
The Society of California Pioneers was founded in 1850 in San Francisco by individuals who had arrived in California before
1850. Dedicated to the study and enjoyment of California art, history, and culture, the Society opened the first library
in California, and a hall for meetings, lectures and social events (Pioneer Hall). It is the oldest organization west of the
