Scrapbook documenting the Savoy Tivoli, a bar and music venue in San Francisco's North Beach neighborhood in 1979. Scrapbook contains copies of newspaper clippings and fliers for jazz, reggae, and punk bands. The Savoy Tivoli is a bar, restaurant and venue on Grant Street in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco.
Background
The Savoy Tivoli is a bar, restaurant and venue at 1434 Grant Ave in the North Beach neighborhood of San Francisco. Established in 1907, it was bought by Frederick Kuh in 1967 from Nick Finocchio. It quickly became a hangout for the Beats of North Beach. It was the first home of Beach Blanket Babylon in the 1974 and was often mentioned in Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City.
