Abstract: George Wilkens Kendall was born on 1807 August 22 at Mount Vernon, near Amherst, New Hampshire. He was a journalist, Texas
sheepman, and war correspondent during the Mexican War (1846-1848). Kendall died in Texas on 1867 October 21. Kendall County,
Texas was named in his honor. This collection consists of correspondence, published articles, and manuscript material created
between 1867 to 1938 that relate to the life and times of George Wilkins Kendall.

George Wilkens Kendall was born on 1807 August 22 at Mount Vernon, near Amherst, New Hampshire. He was a journalist, Texas
sheepman, and war correspondent during the Mexican War (1846-1848). He was also a printer and in 1837 became one of the
founders of New Orleans
Picayune newspaper. His book
Narrative of a Texan Santa Fe Expedition was published in 1844. Kendall died in Texas on 1867 October 21. Kendall County, Texas was named in his honor.

This collection consists of correspondence, published articles, and manuscript material created between 1867 to 1938 that
relate to the life and times of George Wilkins Kendall.
The correspondence in this collection consists of letters between Frederick Webb Hodge and George Kendall's daughter, Georgina
Kendall Fellowes, from 1931-1937. The letters are concerning Hodge's proposed editing of a reissued version of her father's
book,
Narrative of a Texan Santa Fe Expedition.
Some of material also includes genealogical information of the Kendall and Fellowes families.
