Abstract: The Leadership Education to Advance Diversity–African, Black and Caribbean (LEAD-ABC) Program is a University of California, Irvine, School of Medicine mission-based program aimed at producing future physicians who are committed to addressing the health needs of African, Black, and Caribbean communities in California, the United States, and beyond. This collection is comprised of materials documenting the activities of LEAD-ABC including research articles, grant documents, interview questions, audio visual materials, as well as photographs from a June 2020 Black Lives Matter demonstration on campus. The collection also includes narratives collected as part of the LEAD-ABC Orange County African, Black, and Caribbean (OC ABC) video project. The narratives were used to create a video for use in a cultural humility curriculum for medical students at UCI School of Medicine. The goal of the video was twofold: 1) ABC storytelling to empower and validate the experiences of other ABC individuals, 2) voices of ABC individuals educating future physicians (particularly, those who are non-ABC) on day-to-day experiences, difficulties, successes and dreams. Additionally, LEAD-ABC aimed to create a video that would spark conversations around racism as a health issue and serve as powerful imagery that will inspire future physicians who are committed to listening to and addressing the needs of their ABC patients.
